10th SASAS Northern Branch student day anniversary celebrations

The 10th South African Society for Animal Science (SASAS) North student-industry day anniversary celebrations were held at the University of Pretoria (UP). At the same occasion the Animal and Wildlife Science/ Vee en Wildkunde in cooperation with the Center of Wildlife Management department was celebrating 100 years of producing excellent Animal Scientists. Thus, the day was filled with an atmosphere of reflections, encouragements and most of all celebrations of the many milestones overcome by both the department and the SASAS student-industry day.

The call for abstracts and invitations to honorable guests was sounded and Animal Science enthusiasts responded.  Under the theme “Golden Innovations for Sustainable Animal Agriculture” we are sure to be challenged to think beyond the survival  of our generation with the hope that post  congress conversations will be centered on sustainable innovation.

Retha Annette Engels from Stellenbosch University is another recipient of the South African Society of Animal Science (SASAS) Student Postgraduate Merit Awards for exceptional academic achievement in Animal Science during their undergraduate studies at any South African university. She is currently enrolled for an MSc degree in Animal Science and gladly shares her journey to excellence with us.

SASAS Merit award for "Brilliant young undergraduate stars"

The SASAS Merit award awarded by the president of the society, seeks to acknowledge “Brilliant young stars” who during their undergraduate studies at any South African university, rose against all odds and came out top of their class. This year a young man from the University of Fort Hare will be receiving this very award.

11th Africa Young Graduates and Scholars (AYGS) Conference: Quite an experience!

The Africa Young Graduates and Scholars (AYGS) held its 11th annual conference from the 13th to the 14th of March 2017 at the Birchwood hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. The conference was co-hosted by the Human Science Research Council (HSRC) together with the University of Fort Hare. The theme was: “Re-imagining Leadership and Gender for Sustainable Development”.
