Peter Menné loses battle against cancer

WELL-KNOWN  ANIMAL  SCIENTIST AND  FARMER, PETER MENNÉ,  LOSES  BATTLE  AGAINST  CANCER

After a long battle with cancer, Peter Menné, a much-respected applied animal scientist and  farmer of the Soutpansberg, passed away on Saturday, January 30.   He was a well-known breeder of Bonsmara and then Nguni cattle and Pedi sheep.

Peter was born in Cape Town in 1943 and completed his schooling at Kingswood College in Grahamstown.  He then did his National Service at the Air Force Gymnasium in 1961.

At its 62nd Annual General Meeting, hosted at the Euphoria Golf Estate and Hydro in Mookgophong (Naboomspruit), AFMA awarded its prestigious Barney van Niekerk - AFMA Technical person of the year award to Prof Chrisjan Cruywagen of the University of Stellenbosch for his ground breaking work on melamine in food and feed in South Africa over the past two years.

Trevor Dugmore

Specialist researcher in Animal Science with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Environmental Affairs, specializing in ruminant nutrition and the feeding and management of dairy cattle.  Technical editor of the Agricultural Production Guidelines, Dairying in KwaZulu-Natal.  Lecturer and convener of the Cedara Dairy Short Course and lectured dairying to Cedara College students for many years.  Invited speaker at numerous farmers days all over Southern Africa, from the Tsitsikamma to Lusaka.
